Third position of the baton
 (Clip 212).
In the third position, the hand is slightly turned on its side with the fingers closed around the end of the baton, the thumb being on top, and the point orientated obliquely upwards.
You change to this position very easily from the second one and also from the first one. You use it when you want to confer a heroic or solemn character to the music, when conducting fanfares, in giving the lead in ,etc  (Clip 213 Beethoven from "Egmont" ouverture, Clip 214 R.Wagner from "Tannhäuser" ouverture.

Terza posizione della bacchetta (Clip 212 ).
Nella terza posizione la mano sta leggermente girata sul fianco, le dita avvolgono completamente l'impugnatura, il pollice sta sopra, la punta è rivolta obliqua verso l'alto. Questa posizione si raggiunge con estrema semplicità dalla seconda posizione, ma anche dalla prima. Va usata quando si vuole conferire carattere eroico, solenne oppure nelle fanfare, nei segnali di inizio, ecc. (Clip 213 Beethoven dall'overture "Egmont", Clip 214 R.Wagner dall'overture all'opera "Tannhäuser" ).

En la tercera posición la mano está levemente girada de lado, los dedos envuelven completamente la empuñadura, el pulgar está arriba y la punta se dirige oblicuamente hacia arriba. Esta posición se alcanza con mucha facilidad desde la segunda y tercera posición. Se usa cuando se quiere dar un carácter heroico o solemne, también en las fanfarrias o como señal de inicio, (clip 213 Beethoven de la obertura "Egmont" , o bien clip 214 R.Wagner de la obertura a la opera "Tannhäuser").

Die dritte Position (Clip 212)
In der dritten Position ist die Hand leicht zur Seite gedreht und die Finger umschließen das Ende des Taktstocks, der Daumen obenauf und die Taktstockspitze ist nach oben gerichtet.
Sie wechseln sehr einfach aus der ersten oder zweiten Position zu dieser. Verwenden Sie die dritte Position, wenn Sie der Musik einen heroischen oder feierlichen Charakter verleihen wollen, beim Dirigieren von Fanfaren, beim Übernehmen der Führung usw. (Clip 213 Beethoven aus der Egmont Ouvertüre, Clip 214 R. Wagner aus der Tannhäuser Ouvertüre).
